A Day in the Life of a Skin Institute Student

Ever wondered what it’s really like to be an esthetics student? At The Skin Institute, no two days are the same, but every day is filled with learning, hands-on practice, and community. From morning check-ins to client services in our student spa, here’s a peek into a typical day in the life of one of our students.

Morning Pulse Check

Each day begins with Pulse Check a quick group meeting designed to set the tone for the day. It’s our way of making sure everyone is “awake and engaged” before diving into class.

During Pulse Check, you’ll hear daily announcements, share positive affirmations, and sometimes work through real-life scenarios that estheticians face in the industry. On special days, there may even be a short presentation from a guest speaker or instructor.

It’s not just about starting the day it’s about building a supportive, encouraging community where students feel connected and motivated.

Theory Class

After Pulse Check, it’s time to head into theory class. Here, students learn from textbooks and instructors about the science and business behind esthetics.

Topics include:

  • Layers of the skin and anatomy

  • Skincare ingredients and how they work

  • Business and marketing for estheticians

  • Client communication and professionalism

This classroom learning lays the foundation for everything you’ll later practice in the student spa.

Open Clinic in the Student Spa

Once theory wraps up (and after a quick break!), it’s time for open clinic in our supervised student spa. This is where the real fun begins you get to work on actual clients while applying the techniques you’ve been taught.

On any given day, you might perform a:

  • Brow wax

  • Customized facial

  • Chemical peel

  • Body waxing service

Every service is supervised by licensed instructors, so you gain confidence, hands-on experience, and professional polish with each appointment. This is where students say they truly start to feel like estheticians.

Lunch Break

After a busy morning, it’s time for a well deserved lunch. This break helps students recharge, connect with classmates, and get ready for the afternoon ahead.

Afternoon Lab Class

The second half of the day is dedicated to lab class. This is where students:

  • Watch instructor demonstrations of new services

  • Practice hands-on techniques with classmates

  • Experience services firsthand (yes you get to be the client too!)

Receiving treatments yourself is a favorite part for many students because it helps you understand exactly what clients feel during a service. That perspective is essential for delivering great results once you’re licensed.

Every Day is Different

No two days at The Skin Institute are the same. Between new theory lessons, supervised spa appointments, and labs, students are constantly learning and refining their skills. It’s a balance of knowledge, practice, and experience all designed to prepare you for a successful career in esthetics.

Why Students Love Training at The Skin Institute
