A common beauty service is the lash lift, which curls your lash from the base to the tip so the full length of your lash is visible. All lashes have a natural shape, but lash lifts are a way to alter this shape with a lifting solution and a curling rod. These treatments should always be performed by a professional to avoid damage to your eyes.
Lash lifts are often an alternative to lash extensions that can cause damage to your natural lashes. Just like any cosmetic service, there are pros and cons and each patient will react differently. In this blog, we will share the pros and cons of lash lifts and the potential risks that could come with the service.
Our students at The Skin Institute will always perform a service with an instructor present while taking into account clients’ allergens before the service. If you have questions before your lash lift appointment, feel free to call ahead. Each appointment starts with a consultation period to learn your goals and what your lashes have been through in the past.
Pros
Enhanced Natural Beauty
Unlike lash extensions, lash lifts just enhance the length and appearance of your natural lashes. No additional lashes are added and no additional length will be added. Your natural lash color, size, and length will all still be present. The lifting of the lash just gives the appearance of your lashes being longer while they grow out.
Low Maintenance
When you have eyelash extensions, it is important to clean them daily, you will need to get them filled in regularly and avoid wearing heavy mascara. However, with your natural lashes, you are free to wear mascara and you can wash your face with your typical cleanser. Lash lifts require less care on behalf of the client.
Saves Time
The lash lift service typically only takes about an hour to complete. This makes it easy to add to your day without much disruption. Lash lifts also help you cut down on your makeup routine by giving you a more awake appearance without much effort. Lash lifts typically last around 6-8 weeks.
Versatility
Different eye shapes can all look good with lash lifts. It can enhance your natural eye shape and help open your eyes more too. The esthetician performing your lash lift will be able to customize your look to provide a flattering look for your eye shape.
Doesn’t Damage Natural Lashes
Another benefit of having a lash lift over having lash extensions is that the service won’t damage your lashes. Going to a skilled esthetician will ensure that the chemicals or curling tools don’t pull out your lashes or cause breakage. Although chemicals are used during the lash lift process, they are meant to be gentle enough to lift the lashes without irritation. Lash lifts are a non-invasive way to get longer lashes without compromising your natural look.
Cons
Temporary Results
The look of a lash lift won’t last forever. If you like the look of your curled lashes, you will need to have consistent lash lift appointments to maintain that look. Over time, you also shed your lashes and grow new ones which can change the lifted appearance. Your esthetician can help you maintain a cohesive look even as your lashes change.
Can Have Reaction To Chemicals
Each client is different, especially when it comes to chemical sensitivity. The lifting solution can be irritating to some skin types, so it is best to do a skin patch test before starting to use the chemical around the eyes. If you are allergic to the lifting solution, you won’t be able to have the service and forgo the benefits of lifted lashes.
Skill-Dependent
Achieving a proper lash lift is only possible when you go to an esthetician. They have the skills and knowledge to prevent damage to your lashes or eyes and give you the desired result. A poorly executed lift can result in your lashes looking uneven or infections.
Not A Service For Everyone
Those with sparse or extremely short lashes may not be able to have a lash lift service. The lashes need to be at least 4 mm to achieve a lash lift. For those with damaged lashes or short lashes, a growth serum may be a better option. Some clients choose to have eyelash extensions when their natural lashes are extremely short. If this is the route you choose to go, remember that eyelash extensions can damage your natural lashes and prevent them from growing further.
