We also have you learn deep tissue, prenatal and hydrotherapy along with many more techniques. Students are able to practice and perfect their skills by taking clients in our student clinic. Our spa includes 7 beautifully decorated spa rooms, modern equipment and professional products. Let’s go further into what some of these techniques that we teach involve.
Swedish Massage
A Swedish massage is usually referred to a classic massage. It involves soft, long strokes on most layers of muscles and often includes a relaxing head massage. As a massage therapist, you’ll start by massaging the back and neck, moving to down to the arms, legs and sometimes feet. Some clients don’t like having their feet touched, so it’s always good to ask them first before you start your massage. This type of massaging technique targets muscle tension and is further lenient for the body. Swedish massaging can be both relaxing and energizing for your client in addition to them leaving refreshed and ready for their journey.
Thai Yoga
Thai Yoga is a native and therapeutic practice derivative of Buddhism and Tibetan traditions. There are four states of mind that are involved with this technique; Love, Compassion, Joy and Equanimity. With these mindful qualities transmitted into the massage it is very successful. Your Thai Yoga session with your client will have little to no actual touching. Now keep in mind, you don’t have to be Buddhist to perform this type of massage. As a massage therapist doing Thai yoga, your client will lie down while you basically perform yoga on them. It involves a lot of deep stretches and compressions, which can be challenging at times but should never be painful to your client. Thai yoga can treat headaches, knee pain, shoulder and neck pain as well. Multiple Sclerosis or even after having a stroke can help release pain with Thai Yoga.
Medi-Cupping Therapy
Have you ever watched the new Karate Kid with Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith? If so, there’s the scene where Jaden Smith is beat up by fellow students at school. Jackie Chan takes him inside his office to place fiery suction cups on his abdomen to help him heal faster. Medi-Cupping Therapy is just the same. It’s a traditional Chinese medicine, where the practitioner places the cups on areas of blocked areas that are breaking down. The cups are usually placed in the same spot for 10-20 minutes. These cups can leave a mark on your client that may look like a bruise but don’t worry, they’re not bruises. It’s a discoloration of tissues due to the decline of blood. Cupping increases blood circulation and may relieve muscle tension, which can improve blood flow.
